Miniguide to Hong Kong
The city of Hong Kong in southeast China is an autonomous city and former British Colony. Hong Kong is a modernised city with a skyscraper skyline and a wealth of world class sites and attractions. Whether you’re here for a weekend or a week, you’re sure to find plenty to do to keep you busy.

Old Town Central is the city’s dynamic hub. You’ll find an eclectic mix of rooftop bars and old temples lining the streets providing an atmosphere that’s unlike anything you’ve experienced before. Old Town Central is a district that’s steeped in history, so if you want to learn more about Hong Kong’s rich cultural heritage, Old Town Central should be the top of your list.

Hong Kong’s Possession Street is steeped in history. It’s the site where the British Royal Navy’s 150 year colonial reign began after they arrived in the nearby Possession Point, now known as Hollywood Road. The area was given a revamp and now boasts a host of cool bars and restaurants as well as several shops and galleries.

The neighbourhood of Chu Win Kee is a quirky shopping spot where you can stock up on everything from bamboo hangings to pottery and home wear. Upper Lascar Row is a quaint area that offers something a little different to other shopping districts in Hong Kong. Famed for its antique stalls, you’ll find plenty of interesting items from handcrafted modern pieces to historical replicas and decorative items.

If you want to learn more about the city’s rich historical past then a trip to Man Mo Temple is a must. A stone’s throw away from Tai Ping Shan you’ll find the 150 year old building shrouded in history ready for you to explore the fascinating stories behind it.

But Hong Kong is famous for more than just its ancient temples, there’s plenty of outdoor spaces too including Pak Tsz Lane Park. This spot is popular with tourists and locals alike. Why not pop along with a picnic and sit back and watch the world go by? Hong Kong Island is also home to the largest public park and a rich history of attractions to explore including Victoria Peak, the island’s highest point.

For art buffs, 46 Graham Street/48 Hollywood Road is the place to go. You’ll find the streets lined with graffiti from local artists so make sure you have your camera ready as your artistic streak is sure to be inspired.

A trip to Hong Kong wouldn’t be complete without sampling some of the city’s local delicacies. Lan Fong Yuen is arguably the best spot in town to try some traditional Hong Kong-style milk tea and is the home of silk stocking milk tea. Don’t forget to try the delicious egg tarts too!

Hong Kong is also home to a thriving food scene. The rooftop terrace Piqniq is a quirky little space decked out in vibrant colours and polka dot pumpkins painted by renowned artist Yayoi Kasuma. It’s the perfect place to catch up with friends or just to stop off and refuel after a busy day sightseeing. It serves up some stylish cocktails, and a variety of food baskets stacked with plenty of dishes from around the world including Wagyu Sando and tuna maki.

When you picture Hong Kong you won’t be mistaken for imagining a large bustling city with neon lights illuminating the way, and for the most part you’d be right. But before Hong Kong became the thriving metropolis it is today, it started life as a humble fishing village. The Hong Kong we know today is made up of 250 islands, some uninhabited, so you’re certainly best placed for a little island escape. The district of Tai Po for example is a naturists paradise with beautiful still waters, verdant forests and picturesque country park. You’ll be sure to fall in love with the beauty of Hong Kong’s greenest neighbourhood. Tuen Mun is another coastal district adorned with natural beauty. It’s a perfectly picturesque location with outdoor spaces like Tam Lam Country park with its verdant rolling hills and sprawling beaches, you’re sure to be inspired by the panoramic views and serene atmosphere.

If you’re after more hustle and bustle then the busy commercial area of Wan Chai certainly offers something different. The bars and clubs of Lockhart Road are humming with activity during the evenings. For a casual and cosy vibe head on over to The Wanch bar and relax by listening to some live music. For drinks with a view, you might prefer the The Pawn with its cosmopolitan decor and rustic food menu. Wan Chai feels a lot more local than some of the more commercialised areas so it’s definitely worth exploring this neighbourhood to experience a different atmosphere.

Despite its size, Hong Kong is a compact city that’s easy to explore on foot. If you fancy clocking up the miles why not take part in a guided walking tour of the city? Or if you prefer you can jump on one of the Hong Kong Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tours and let an experienced guide show you around all the main sites and attractions. Your comprehensive tour will stop off at over 20 of Hong Kong’s most famous destinations so you’re sure not to miss out any hidden gems during your visit.

If you’re flying in, Hong Kong International Airport is around a 30 minute drive from the city centre. Get in touch with us today to discuss your airport transfer options. We offer coach hire and bus rental across Hong Kong for your convenience.
